5 Signs It’s Time to Repair Your Fence

August 8, 2026 admin 2 min read

A fence rarely fails all at once. It usually sends a few warning signs first — a wobble here, a gap there — long before a full panel comes down. Catching these early keeps a small repair from turning into a full replacement.

1. Leaning Or Wobbly Posts

If a post moves when you push on it, the concrete footing has likely loosened or the wood has started to rot below the soil line. A single leaning post puts extra strain on the panels next to it, so it’s worth fixing before it spreads.

2. Sagging Or Misaligned Gates

A gate that used to swing freely and now drags on the ground or won’t latch is a sign the hinge post has shifted, or the hardware has simply worn out. Either way, it’s usually a quick fix if it’s caught early.

3. Cracked, Splitting, Or Missing Boards

Wood expands and contracts with the seasons, and eventually a board will split. One or two boards is a simple swap; if you’re seeing it across several sections, it may be time to talk about resealing the whole fence.

4. Rust Or Corrosion On Hardware

Hinges, latches and brackets take a beating from moisture. Once rust sets in, hardware can seize up or snap under normal use — replacing it before it fails is far cheaper than an emergency gate repair.

5. Visible Storm Or Impact Damage

Fallen branches, wind-blown debris, and impact from vehicles or equipment can crack panels or knock posts out of alignment even when the rest of the fence looks fine. It’s worth a quick walk of the fence line after any major storm.

If any of this sounds familiar, a repair visit is usually faster and less disruptive than most people expect. Get in touch and we’ll take a look.
